Meet Jim Lundgren

Jim Lundgren

I’m running for Cass County Commissioner to bring a fresh perspective, common-sense leadership, and a strong voice to District 3.

My parents, teachers, and coaches taught me the values of hard work, personal responsibility, and treating people with respect. Through athletics, education, my career, and community involvement, I learned the importance of discipline, teamwork, accountability, and perseverance.

I earned a degree in Business Administration from the College of St. Thomas while competing in track and cross country. With the support of my parents, I worked my way through college by taking on roofing and painting jobs and working in maintenance at Orrin Thompson Homes. Those experiences reinforced the value of hard work, personal responsibility, and earning what you achieve.

Annette and I spent nearly the last 15 years living in Rockford, Minnesota, while building our careers and planning for retirement. We remained closely connected to Cass County during those years, spending time at the family cabin and eventually purchasing our retirement home.

A Lifelong Connection to Cass County

Annette's grandfather purchased the family cabin in Cass County District 3 in 1960, and Annette and I have been coming here since 1980. Over the years, we developed a strong connection to this community through family, friendships, and countless memories made on the lakes and in the outdoors.

Like many residents, we chose to make Cass County our permanent home because we value what makes this place special—the lakes, forests, strong communities, local businesses, and hardworking people who call it home. In 2020, we purchased our retirement home and small farm on the same lake, and in 2025, we became full-time residents.

Today, we enjoy spending time with our children and grandchildren, fishing, boating, enjoying the outdoors, and being active members of the community.

Cass County isn't just where we live—it's home.

Why I'm running

After more than 40 years of private-sector business experience, including finance, construction and forestry equipment, compact equipment, and railroad track maintenance and inspection services, I am ready to put that experience to work serving the residents of Cass County.

I am running because I believe District 3 deserves a fresh perspective, common-sense leadership, and a strong voice on the County Board.

I believe leadership starts with listening. Throughout this campaign, I continue to meet with residents, township officials, city leaders, and local business owners across District 3. Those conversations continue to shape my focus and priorities and strengthen my understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing our communities.

My goal is to support our townships, cities, residents, and local businesses; protect taxpayers; strengthen public safety and emergency services; maintain critical infrastructure; preserve private property rights; and protect the quality of life that makes Cass County a great place to live, work, raise a family, and retire.

Financial Management

Early in my career, I worked in finance and credit management, developing expertise in financial analysis, budgeting, risk management, and strategic decision-making.
That experience provided a strong foundation in fiscal responsibility and continues to shape my approach to managing taxpayer resources.

Infrastructure
& Railway Maintenance

For nearly 15 years before retiring, I worked for Loram Maintenance of Way, partnering with Class I and short-line railroads across North America to develop long-term maintenance strategies, support infrastructure investments, negotiate service agreements, and build strategic partnerships. This experience strengthened my skills in planning, budgeting, problem-solving, accountability, and the responsible stewardship of critical infrastructure.

Leadership Starts With Listening

The best leaders don't assume they have all the answers. They listen, ask questions, gather facts, and make informed decisions.

Principles That Guide My Leadership

My approach to leadership is guided by a core set of values that shape how I make decisions, serve the community, and represent the residents of Cass County:
  • Residents, businesses, cities, and townships first
I will remain focused on the needs and concerns of residents, local businesses, cities and townships,  with a strong commitment to listening, responding, and delivering results.
  • Excellence
I am committed to high standards, thoughtful decision-making, and continuous improvement in county government.

  • Character
I will conduct myself with honesty, transparency, and the highest ethical standards in all decisions and relationships.

  • Innovation and Common-Sense Solutions
I believe thoughtful and creative innovation, combined with practical problem-solving, is essential to improving services and meeting the evolving needs of our communities.

  • Mutual Respect
I value listening, learning, and working collaboratively with residents, cities, townships, local businesses, community leaders, fellow elected officials, and Cass County team members to achieve the best possible outcomes for Cass County.

Looking Ahead

District 3 deserves a fresh perspective, common-sense leadership, and a strong voice on the County Board.

After more than 40 years of business experience, I am ready to put that experience to work serving the residents, local businesses, cities, and townships of Cass County.

I will listen, learn, evaluate the facts, and make informed decisions that protect taxpayers, support our communities, maintain critical infrastructure, and preserve the quality of life that makes Cass County such a special place to live, work, raise a family, and retire.

I would be honored to earn your support and your vote. Together, we can help ensure Cass County remains a great place to live, work, raise a family, and retire for generations to come.

Let’s Connect

You'll find me out in the community—at township and city meetings, local events, local businesses and restaurants, or simply visiting with neighbors.

I look forward to meeting more residents, listening to your ideas, and earning your trust and your vote.
Cass County better today than yesterday, better tomorrow than today.
